To Whom Is The Gospel Preached?
"...Therefore why do you not look to bring the form of preaching to God's work, than to bring down the power of God's work to your form of preaching?..."
Excerpt From Joseph Hussey's "God's Operations Of Grace, But No Offers Of Grace" - (1659-1726)
"...And which Was preached to every creature which is under heaven;
whereof I Paul am made a minister;
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:.." Col 1:24-27.
"... For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time..." 1 Cor 15:3-8.
" And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory..."-Tim 3:16.
"...Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see:
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me..." Matt 11:5-6.
"..When Jesus stood and cried, "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink," He no more invited the thirsty, than He invited the light when He said, Let there be light. In the first place there is not a soul on the earth that does or can thirst for the living waters which flow from Him, until He quickens it, and makes it thirst, and when made to feel its thirst, and even when the tongue faileth for thirst, it can no more approach the living fountain than it can make a world, until Jesus applies, not the invitation, but the word, "Come unto Me." His words are spirit and they are life; and His sheep hear them, and they know His voice, and they follow Him; because they have no power or even disposition to resist their Shepherd's voice. The calling of the saints is nowhere in the scriptures denominated an invitation. He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. If he only invited them they would have to get out themselves, or stay behind. But when he calls, the dead hear His voice, (not His invitationj and they that hear shall live. How would it suit the condition of a poor, lost, helpless soul, one that feels his poverty, inability and impotence, to read the word thus: The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall be invited to live, and they who accept the invitation shall live. And when He inviteth forth His own sheep He goeth before them, provided they accept the invitation. It is perfectly in keeping with every feature of Arminianism for workmongers to talk of invitations of the gospel, because the very term implies the willing and the doing power to be in the creature. But it is neither in harmony with the doctrine of experience of the saints of God to so speak of His communications to them as to imply that He has yielded up the government to them; that He has hinged the effect and result of His communications on their will instead of His own will. It is derogatory to His character, it reflects on His wisdom, power, and grace.

Bled, Led, Fed and Read - In that Order
LM
As Jesus has for them first bled, ---1
Then, they to Him, His Spirit's led,---2
Then to their souls His word is fed,---3
Till their title clear, they have read.---4
The gospel is not to the dead,5
For the dead have no power to hear,6
Until in Life, the Spirit's led,7
Born from above in holy fear.8
No preacher has the power of Life,9
Nor can their word now raise the dead;10
Or save a sinner through their strife,11
- None, to the Savior have they led.12
Grace must quicken the sinner, dead;13 .
A living soul, he then is led 14
By Christ Himself, and then is fed.15
The word of truth and gospel bread. 16
It is the living, not the dead,17
That needs the food of gospel bread;18
- With this the swine cannot be fed, 19
Or on the unanointed, shed. 20
A living heart can be addressed, 21
For poor in spirit, it is blessed; 22
It, in the Savior now can rest,23
And in His righteousness be dressed.24
It's the good news - to these it's sent, 25
Drink for the thirsty it is meant; 26
It finds in these it's own lodgement,27
Where the Spirit, their hearts have rent. 28
We must have ears, that we may hear,29
As the Lord Jesus plainly said;30
And none can hear, till born in fear,31
And by the Spirit they are led. 32
For now in Christ, they've not received 33
The spirit of this fallen world;34
But by His Spirit, now believed 35
This word of grace, preached by His hearld. 36
Some will say, even to this day, 37
That the preacher must therefore know 38
Where the elect in the world lay, 39
That truth to them he then might show; 40
But the Apostles could not know, 41
Until the Spirit did them show, 42
- On whom it pleased Him to bestow 43
Eternal LIfe down here below. 44
For Providence did lead them where 45
The Holy Spirit first did stir; 46
Of Himself, He had made aware, 47
Before they'd heard a minister. 48
For, without faith they can't believe, 49
Or words of Grace, their hearts relieve; 50
Nor in their minds, rightly conceive 51
What the believing do receive. 52
This word was preached before to some, 53
But did not profit them you see; 54
Faith, to believe it, they had none, 55
To dare to trust in God's mercy. 56
Where outwardly the gospel comes, 57
It's only as the word of men; 58
But children gather up these crumbs, 59
And wait in hope for it again. 60
And though it's preached here all abroad, 61
From house tops, or the new airways; 62
Men are indiff'rent, or they're awed - 63
Will reach the called in every case. 64
Their witness is the Son within, 65
And to their Father they reply; 66
"We've received double for our sin," 67
When to their hearts, this word apply; 68
Till it comes with pow'r in our soul, 69
We're ashamed our names, there enroll; 70
Nor will it ever hearts console, 71
To make Christ's glory all our goal; 72
But where it comes in Power and Love, 73
In Christ's Own Spirit from above; 74
It's the sweetest notes we've heard of, 75
And rests on us like a soft dove. 76
I wait the times of gospel bread, 77
For with it now my soul is fed; 78
And not to self, but Christ instead, 79
I look to Him, by Him I'm led; 80
When we shall walk no more this way, 81
No longer make this earth our stay; 82
We'll still sing on in Heaven's Day 83
The substance of the gospel's ray; 84
But more than this - we shout with joy, 85
In hope of our ceaseless employ; 86
Where nothing shall our peace alloy, 87
As sin and fear do now destroy; 88
For here I still must daily know, 89
Christ and His suff'rings, in my soul, 90
To always in this body show, 91
He suffered too, fulfilled His goal; 92
And Jesus there will be our song, 93
We'll ever know Him as His Own; 94
The Word Himself, for which saints long, 95
Is in His Glory, fully known. 96
