He Changes Not

"...I am the LORD. I change not; Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed..." Mal 3:4.

L.M.

Whatever change takes place with us,
Whatever here may be our lot;
God is in one mind, we read thus,
A God in Christ, that changes not.

What He desired, that He has done,
In His immutability;
Now may our thoughts in this vein run,
As He may give ability.

His judgments are unsearchable,
And all His Ways, past finding out;
Beyond our minds, unreachable,
There to look o'er His Own layout.

Though men may turn things upside down,
And even dare to God dictate;
Though they incur His righteous frown,
When would invade His Own estate;

With understanding so darkened,
And foreigners to the life of God,
Until they have been awakened,
And called in holy paths to trod.

For when His light shines in their hearts,
Where in their nature is so dark;
There their communion with Him starts,
In paths of love and peace embark;

For they are swallowed in His Will,
Nor would extend one step beyond;
Seek now, His glory to fulfill,
As Power and Love make them respond.

O, may His love lead sweetly on,
Into these deep things of our God;
O, may His light each day, new dawn,
On the mundane paths we oft trod.

O, may His spirit fill our hearts
With His sweet peace and love and grace;
Oh, more to view in Christ our part,
Till there we see Him face to Face.

O, what a fruitful land is ours,
What peace and glory, still He shows!
With heav'nly breezes, gentle showers,
His Spirit sweetly on us blows.

Though old earth's seasons daily change,
And Time itself flows swiftly on;
Beyond His care shall never range,
His sheep, wherever they may roam.

His Pow'r and promise them secures,
For Love was ever on them staid;
Though clouds may still His Face obscure,
Their hope in Him shall never fade.

His everlasting arms beneath,
Anchored in Christ beyond the veil;
In love to them, He did bequeath,
A home in heav'n, with Him to dwell.

O, if my Lord would take away
The burden of this heavy clay,
My soul would follow in His way,
And in His presence ever stay.

Oh, if He'd come, my soul to meet,
My soul would rise to Him in haste;
In love and joy, Him gladly greet,
And of His Grace, forever taste.

Oh, friends in earth, in Christ's dear Love,
I must press on, He calls me go,
To mansions there, prepared above;
- Still He prepared for us below,

When there He died upon the tree,
With pains and groans, and dying strife;
For there He died to set us free,
And there His blood gave us our Life.

We now anticipate that day,
When freed from earth, our souls shall fly,
And with our Savior, there shall stay;
For on the cross, for us did die.
