The Beatitudes

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.

For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.

The Beatitudes

Matt 5

11’s

In nature, men think they are blessed to be rich,
But our Lord has taught that a poor state’s the best;
Now may you determine for yourself, from which
Your soul and spirit may even find it’s rest.

For when in this world we can no longer find
A confidence in any goodness, our own;
But feel that poverty that was in Christ’s Mind,
When He left the former glory He had known.

For no reputation of Himself did make,
When He came to earth and left His Father’s Throne;
But laid His Own glory aside for our sake,
When He tread this earth with every sigh and groan.

What a mournful state was felt by the Dear Son!
Who, by God’s Will, tread the wine press all alone;
In us, we also feel His sufferings done,
When He died, all of our own sins to atone.

He in meekness, then bowed to His Father’s Will;
And as a lamb to the slaughter, He thus went,
For it became Him, all righteousness fulfill,
For before the world, He was ordained and sent.

Not the ones who drink, always feel they’re well-filled;
But those who daily feel their hunger and thirst,
And all their righteousness, by the Law is killed:
Where the wine of Grace has their old bottles burst.

But those who must continually, now feel
No sufficiency in all their earthly store;
But for all their wants, must look to Jesus still,
Because in Grace, He has pleased to give them more.

O, for a heart of mercy as it was found
In the Lord and Savior when He did walk here;
Seventy times seventy upon this ground,
He taught His children to forgive in His fear.

O, what a blessing, when our heart is made pure,
When our eye’s single to the glory of God;
God dwells in us, and His Love our hearts’ assure,
Because He has given us His Spirit’s nod.

O, what a peace, does in our heart’s there appear,
When these glad tidings are sown from His bright hill;
With the glorious sound, where we are brought near,
We shall rest in His Love, until we be still.

O, what a peace, even when our trials are done,
When we are persecuted for His name’s sake;
And the way of suff’ring for His name have run,
And daily made to carry, and our cross take:

And the world revile us, with all the reproach
That the flesh may muster against God’s dear sons;
But none shall be able to ever encroach
The blessed estate of those Christ died for once.
