"... For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world...." (Heb 4:3)

There Remains A Rest Unto The People Of God

(Inspired from an article by G. Beebe)

LM

Oh, tried and tempted child of God,
Who no more rests in the world's store;
Who've daily through this dry ground trod -
Still, rest in God, can find no more.

You long for rest, but can find none,
A feeling heart, also is gone;
Weary, laden when day is done,
Yet fear on Christ to lean upon.

You think a Christian does not feel
The uncertainty you now know;
For, from all these thoughts Christ would heal,
And more and more, His Face would show.

You even doubt these thoughts you have
Are such as a true Christian feels;
And really care not for His salve
With which your maladies He heals.

The world's old love has passed away,
What you once loved, now you do hate;
Yet feel a burden every day,
And a myster'ous, constant weight.

Still look for pleasure where once walked,
But these have now become so dull,
- Even those with whom once you talked;
There where your joys seemed ever full.

You feel that there has been a change,
But dare to hope that it's of Grace;
Though, after Jesus you would range,
Still His great kindness can't embrace.

You still are walking much by sight,
And from the old mind seek your light,
For think an angel here must light,
Then all you'll know with great delight -

You look for great things, eyes can see,
But eyes of faith, you stand in need,
For only faith can now relieve
From all these things where you've journeyed.

Faith presses on where we can't see,
And in the Savior still believes;
Though we are dead, in His mercy
From all these troubles He relieves.

Though our old man is put away,
Yet he still troubles in his day;
But Christ is ever all our stay,
When unbelief's done all it may.
