“…And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. "...And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day..." Amos 8:9.

"... And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof..." Rev 21:23.

"... And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever..." Rev 22:5

The Sun Went Down at Noon

The darkened sky, the veil there rent,
And no light of sun or moon;
When all our sin on Christ was sent,
And the sun went down at noon.

O! wondrous Love, when Jesus died;
When there His Dear Heart did swoon;
For there, God’s Glory did unhide,
Though earth’s sun went down at noon.

There to fulfill the prophet’s words
That God’s children may commune;
With Him who now our soul upgirds,
When the sun went down at noon.

When on the cross the Savior hung
With God, our hearts to attune;
For now our hearts, new songs have sung,
For the sun went down at noon.

In that great day the Savior died,
And to us He gave the boon;
We found in Him, God had not lied,
When the sun went down at noon.

Solomon’s sun of vanity
With the light of the Law’s moon;
Restored to us, our sanity
When old Sol went down at noon.

No more to suffer in its heat
The rest of the afternoon;
Or to a shade seek our retreat
For the sun went down at noon.

All that is under earth’s old sun
Will here pass away so soon;
For through the work that Christ has done,
The sun has gone down at noon.

He arose to bring a New Day
With no need of sun or moon;
For their faint light faded away,
As the sun went down at noon.

A sun of righteousness yet shines,
Though earth’s sun went down at noon;
Released from its intense confines,
When the sun went down at noon.

We need no light of sun or moon;
They have faded from our view;
They melted down in the high noon,
When Christ made our heavens New.

The sun’s great strength, the moon’s pale light
Left for us no place or room;
Till Christ revealed to pleasure’s sight
That He was our sun at noon.

There is a city now indwelt
With great mansions of great room;
Where heat of sins' no longer felt,
For that sun went down at noon..
