"Duane Street"-
..Arr. by A. Bailey.
"..Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face...Psa 5:8.
"...The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it..." Isa 40:3-5.
The Crooked Made Straight
By O. Allen Bailey
LM
The voice said cry: what shall I cry?
And God soon gives to him reply;
"All flesh is grass, it's glory fades,
Where God's Spirit on it invades.
Flesh's glory passes away,
In God's presense, it cannot stay;
Nor can it glory in man's pride,
Or with Christ's Glory, it abide.
For God will come in His Own Power,
And with strong hand, His glory tower;
And His Own arm for Him shall rule,
According to His Own schedule.
Zion, lift up thy voice so glad,
You never more shall be thus sad;
Lift up with with strength, be not afraid
When Christ in beauty is arrayed.
His Own reward, with Him He bears,
And for His sheep He ever cares;
When as a shepherd, He shall feed,
And in the wilderness, He lead.
The lambs He'll gather with His arm,
-Keep in His bosom from all harm,
And those with young, He'll gently lead,
And will supply their every need.
An highway there shall be cast up,
From pool to pool, they there may sup;
For the wayfaring strangers be,
Though fools, the way shall plainly see.
The valleys there, raised up on high,
When they unto their God shall cry;
And every mountain be made low,
And God's bare arm to them shall show;
The crooked there shall be made straight,
God, every empasse, unfrustrate;
And all be leveled to a plain,
When from bondage, Christ bring again.
When peace and comfort to them speaks,
Then to His Face, their spirit seeks;
Their way, though weary, He relieves,
And in Him again their heart believes.
Though here a wilderness we know,
- For a long time, God's Face not show;
All these are working for our good,
Though they are now not understood,
The hills and valleys, e'er we'll pass,
And brighter scen'ry find at last;
When all the mountains pass away,
The path we came, we'll then survey;
To see that Love had led us through,
Where we knew then not what to do;
That God, His faithfulness thus prove,
Our unbelief, He more remove.
Where our enemies looked so great,
- We sometimes trembled at our fate;
Till our eyes were opened to view;
The host of Heaven, not a few,
On every mountain, swords there drawn,
For we were there not left alone;
But fiery chariots lit our way
As they did in Gideon's day.
Though eyes are opened, or still closed,
Christ will bring through where all's opposed;
He'll blind our enemies instead,
When to the promised land we're led.
