Voluntary Offering
Twelfthly, All my strength, bodily health, and my appointed time, together with those abilities which God hath bestowed on me, as the God of nature; and likewise all the supernatural gifts, such as knowledge, faith, zeal, usefulness, utterance, fear, love, enlargement of heart, &c. which God is the best judge of, and which he hath freely and undeservedly bestowed on me, as the God of grace; as also the joy, peace, happiness, or felicity which he 11ath graciously given me in hope, as the God of glory; I desire with my whole heart to offer the whole of them up entirely to the service of my only master, Christ Jesus the Lord, to be disposed of to the honour of his own name, and the good of his own elect.
And now, O Lord, that heareth prayer, let my petition come before thee, and never suffer my lips to flatter thee, nor my perverse will to tempt thee. If I know any thing of my own heart, I can say, I have no desire after an episcopal see, but only that an effectual door should be opened unto me, l Cor. xvi. 9: Nor will I ever crave the authorizing hand of a spiritual lord, falsely so called, 1 Cor. viii. 6, to be laid upon me; but only that thy hand, thou ever-blessed Shepherd and Bishop of Souls, should be laid upon me; and that not once only, but in every time of need, accompanying it with, "Fear not, I am the first and the last," Rev. i. 17. As for my craving deaconties, deanerles, vicarages, or any other episcopal preferments whatsoever, they never shall be once mentioned in my prayers, as becometh a saint, but only a large field to preach thy gospel in, with that food and raiment, which my heavenly Father knoweth I stand in need of before I ask him, Matt. vi. 8, and with this humbling grace also, to be therewith content, I Tim. vi. 8. As for ecclesiastical titles, or any other carnal dignity, I will never pray for them, but hope to be satisfied with the title of a faithful labourer; nor will I crave any other dignity - than that which thy word allows, namely, that of being thy son by faith, and an heir of thy eternal kingdom.
And suffer me, O Lord, to remind thee of the earnest petitions which I once put up with many tears, in a wood between Petworth and Horsham, in Sussex, and to which thou gavest me an answer of peace. Thou knowest I was moved to put it up, under the melancholy reflection of a certain man, who in persecution and oppression seemed strong in the faith, but in prosperity was fearfully fallen, and has appeared to fall ever since. Thou knowest I earnestly solicited the following blessings of thee, lest I should fall as he did. First, That thou wouldest bless me indeed with thy Spirit's internal testimony, thy supporting hand, and thy soul-comforting presence. Secondly, That thou wouldest make me abundantly useful in my ministry, and fruitful in my life; and bless me with diligence, knowledge, and zeal, to serve my generation while it is called to-day. Thirdly, That thou wouldest keep both my spiritual and temporal portion in thine own hands; but give me a strong faith to draw daily upon thee, as my soul, body, or family might stand in need. Fourthly, That thou wouldest defray my expenses, and the expenses of my family, through this life, so as to shield a liberal mind and a tender conscience, and give me daily an open heart, a bountiful hand, and a noble, generous spirit, as well becomes the gospel, and the preacher of it. And that I might not muzzle thy truth in the pulpit, to shield covetousness, nor pass the sentence of damnation on myself, when I preached against it; lest, while I teach another not to covet, I myself should commit sacrilege, Rom. it. 22. Fifthly and lastly, That thou wouldest enable me, at my dying hour, to commit my soul, my wife, and family, into thy hands, in the fullest assurance of spiritual faith. To all which thou gavest me an answer of peace. So, O Lord, let it stand ratified in the heavens, and in thy own appointed time make it good on earth.
And whatever doctrines thou shalt think meet to reveal in answer to prayer, whether to preach, or to write; whether pleasing to sinners, or displeasing; O Lord, give me grace to preach them, or write them, without being lifted up with the applause of true brethren, or awed by the carnal fear of false ones. If all frown on me, do thou smile; let who will oppose, do thou lead me on; whoever condemns or accuses me, do thou justify; and if the whole world curse me, do thou bless; and under thy blessed wings I shall sing sweetly, and be safe enough from the fear of evil. If thou givest peace, who then can create trouble, whether it be against a nation, or a man only? O Lord, let the hypocrite never reign, lest the souls of the righteous be ensnared. Amen and Amen.
Mercy and truth be with thee, 2 Sam. xv. 2o. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others, 2 Tim. ii. 2

In Memory of Our Beloved Brother and Fellow-Laborer In The Faith of Jesus
Elder Hewitt D. Hamrick

Elder Hewitt D. Hamrick passed from this mortal life on December 27, 2010. He had lived most of his life in and around the town of Addison in Winston County, Alabama, and lived some years in Florida where he met and married his wife Norma to which union was born a dear family. He was blessed to live to a good age, and was a wonderful man and dear brother in the truth. He is survived by his lovely family, including his wife Norma of many years, and their several children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, several sisters, and one brother, along with many friends.
Brother Hamrick was called by his country to serve his nation in the Korean War of the early 1950’s where he served honorably as a soldier, fighting the North Korean and Chinese forces on the front lines. He told me that he drove a truck, hauling ammunition up to the front lines; but he felt safer doing that than fighting directly with the enemy as an infantryman. But It was the will of God to preserve him from harm and return him to his home safely, as God had more plans and purpose for him.
Brother Hamrick was, for many years, a member and ordained preaching elder of the Primitive Baptist Church; also lesser known by the older name of "Old School", or Particular Baptists. As an ordained elder in that affiliation, (I believe he was ordained to the ministry around 1975) God blessed him as a faithful minister of the Lord Jesus, and he was given to ably declare Christ’s great salvation to poor sinners. Brother Hewitt was a faithful and consistent preacher of the "things most surely believed among us." He was ever proclaiming in his preaching that all things were of God; and that all of a poor sinner’s salvation and deliverance was solely according to the Power of God in Christ, working both out of us and also within us - Out of us in eternity, and in us as His Spirit indwells His children, working in them that which is well pleasing in His sight. Brother Hewitt did never mix the merit of human works - or any work of theirs as the basis of man’s salvation; but rather taught that all Glory, Honor, Power and Praise was due to the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus by His Grace and Love toward His children, and which was immovable and stedfast; as it was given to them in Christ in Eternity; and even There secured for them as the objects of His Eternal Love and heirs of His Grace; and therefore, that it was the Eternal Counsel in The God Head that The Man eternally appointed and divinely named Jesus (The Savior of His people) should at the ordained or appointed fullness of Time enter into this low ground of sin and sorrow and redeem these from their sins. Not only so; but that He should come into this world that they might have Life, and might have it more abundantly. He believed that all the Father had given Jesus would come to Him; but no soul of mankind can come to Christ except the Father powerfully draw it, and he believed that no power could pluck them out of His Father’s hand; because the Father is greater than all. Elder Hamrick believed in the Absolute Sovereignty of Almighty God, so that not a sparrow, a universe, an atom or a worm could fortuitously, or in any wise remove itself, or be removed by any power beyond the bounds of His Eternal Power and Purpose in His Son - Who by Him created all things. According to this, he believed that all things were working together for good to those who love God, and who are the called according to His purpose; and in this, Jesus was taken by wicked hands, crucified and slain by the leaders of both the Jews and Gentiles, to do whatsoever God had determined before to be done to accomplish His eternal Purpose in Him in the redemption of His people.
Elder Hamrick was given to believe that when Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of the Father, all that were seminally chosen in Him before the foundation of the world were also raised up with Him; and because they were thus living in Him, they would also be raised up with Him to walk in the newness of His Life; therefore, Elder Hamrick believed that Jesus is the Resurrection of His people, and that in the definite article - just as He is the Way, The Truth and The Life; and they who are living and believing in Him shall never die; because he that has the Son, has Life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death into Life - even the resurrection Life of Christ. He believed that when Jesus rose from the dead that all His people rose there with Him as first fruits and the pledge of all who would follow as each or every one in their own order to also come forth into Life, and thus to appear as His and with Him at His coming to them. He believed that Jesus, as The Mighty God had conquered not only some, but all things for His people, and had put all things under His feet, or under His dominion; that things past, present, and future, including life, death and the grave has been overcome and conquered by the reigning Son of God in the manifestation of Himself in the likeness of sinful flesh and overcoming it for them; and that all things are theirs, and thus given to them in Him. Brother Hewitt believed and preached that God’s children, when called by His Grace are wholly passive in what is usually called the work of divine regeneration, or being made spiritually alive - or alive to the things of the Spirit. He believed that this phenomenon might take place at any time in the purpose of God, even while still in our mothers womb - for who knows the way of The Spirit? - Who like the wind, blows where He will, and even without the aid of someone or some thing outwardly, vocally or by any other instrumentality preaching the good news of the Gospel. However, he did believe that this work of the Sovereign Sprit of God may and does sometimes attend the outward preaching of the Gospel; but before this takes place, the mere grammatical words of it have no real or spiritual meaning until the recipients of it are quickened and blessed to hear the joyful and pleasing sound under the Spirit’s influence, as they are brought forth and are delivered in power, and comfort and much assurance by a spiritual Hope in Christ; because without the Spirit, the body is dead and completely incapable or powerless of any (spiritual) activity.
Brother Hamrick also believed that even after an heir of grace had been quickened unto divine Life, received a lively hope, and thereby had given evidence that the Spirit of God had taken residence or indwelling in their soul - they were yet in their fleshly state, only a human mortal, and thus subject to the presence and being of the remnants of sin in their mortal body. And because of this, they ever stood in need of a manifest or daily experience of being delivered from the power of sin and consequent condemnation because of this sin yet dwelling in their members. But he had learned from his daily experience in this life and death struggle, and from the testimony and holy confirmation by his spiritual understanding of the Scriptures of truth, that Christ had conquered sin for Him in His Own Holy and sinless Body when He lived here in the same likeness of sinful flesh as His children now possess; and to conquer that sin, Jesus took sin upon, or to Himself in His Own Holy Body and nailed it to His Tree; therefore it is said: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.." (Rom 8:1-2) And also from 1 Cor 15:54:
"..
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.."
And also in parallel with is Isa 25:7-8, the place from where I believe the Apostle is referring to:
"..And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations. ".. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.."
And from Rom 8:10-11:
"..And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.."..But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies (bodies which are subject to death) by his Spirit that dwelleth (is dwelling) in you.."
The present writer strongly feels that all these things have taken place and have been fully consummated or completed in the experience of Brother Hewitt, and that he is now as One with God in Eternity.
The preceding comments are only a faint sketch of what God had blessed Elder Hamrick to not only believe; but to also preach, in comforting, encouraging and helping to spiritually sustain others concerning this glorious truth and profession of preaching the Lord Jesus and His great salvation.
Personally, brother Hewitt was a very dear brother and companion to the present writer for many years. It was my privilege and great pleasure to be with him and other dear brethren in the house of the Lord, where we enjoyed many lovely scenes together, where I can truly say and feel that The Lord came down our souls to greet. Elder Hamrick was also a very kind and considerate person toward all. He was of such a kind nature, that he even seemed to have no need of using tact in dealing with others - although he was very tactful. He was never contentious or given to an argumentative spirit. I always felt at complete ease and rest in his sweet presence, knowing that he was not one given to quick judgment, or to be easily offended or to make another brother an offender for a word; but was always willing to listen to another point of view; and was not given to make an issue of things. I am sure that there are many who also knew him well, and could also testify to the same. In this, he never presented a spirit of aloofness to any, but sought fellowship with those who manifested a kindred spirit and love of the truth and love of and to their fellowman. And as much as he deemed practical and profitable, I never felt that he thought (or taught) that our particular affiliation or denomination, (much less our little factions) possessed a monopoly upon the spiritual religion of the Lord Jesus Christ, but fully realized and practiced as much as in him lay to do good to all men, especially to the household of faith; and believed that our gracious God has eternally fore-known or fore-loved His Own, and calls a people out of every kindred , language and nation to His Own Glory and Sovereign purpose in Christ; and that His mercy is over all.
I also had the good pleasure of having the same interests in many secular affairs as brother Hewitt did. He was a professional mechanic, as I followed engineering and design work most of my life. For instance, several years ago we both became interested in experimenting with building an engine that would be more efficient than the then present technology was producing. After we together attended some seminars in Birmingham upon the subject, Bro. Hewitt designed and built a modification to an engine in a pickup truck, and actually ran it for several miles. He reported that the engine seemed to have less power with the added modifications; but that it also ran much cooler than it did before. I installed a different system on an engine, which also ran very well in a static mode, and also ran very cool; but I never did try it on the highway.
Some years ago, Brother Hewitt retired and converted his garage into a meeting house, and formed an assembly called Corinth Old School Baptist, where we have enjoyed many sweet meetings together.
I am truly thankful for being given the privilege and blessing of having known and loved and lived in the Spirit with Elder Hewitt Hamrick, and also knowing the sweet fellowship of his dear family and friends. I feel that our loss is his eternal gain, and that he is even now basking in the unspeakable Love and Joy of that Eternal Realm which cannot ever begin to be compared with anything in created existence. And even now, though with our comparatively weak powers - we can, when it pleases God, partake of the essence of that transcending World, where all shall be joy and peace and love, and the heart and soul of man never dies; because, like brother Hewitt we will find our real self to be Eternally One with Christ in God.

The New Jerusalem

"..There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.. Psa 46:4-5

There is a City built by God
Which we so often hymn;
But’s seated in this earthly clod,
Called New Jerusalem.
A man called John, called of the Lord,
And was so dearly loved;
Was in the isle, of Patmos, called
Where Nero had him shoved.
John saw this City coming down
Adorned as a dear Bride;
For she was clothed with a white gown,
And free from worldly pride.
A great and heavn’ly voice declares
Christ dwells now here with men;
He will provide for all her cares,
Who paid for all her sin.
For, now He will dwell in her midst,
Himself, to be with them;
With those whom His Love has thus kissed
And Love does not condemn.
Where there are tears, He’ll wipe away,
And every eye be dry;
And He from fear, our soul shall save,
Though nature still may cry.
The curse of death shall be no more,
Sorrow shall flee away;
Jesus’ Glory is kept in store,
And that shall be their stay.
Crying and pain, can’t there prevail,
Though often it may try;
Her life is hid within the veil,

All things are made forever New,
Said He upon His Throne;

These Living Words, Faithful and True,

The motions of their sinful flesh

This City doth appear;
Descending there with Holy light

God’s Glory shines so bright therein,
Far precious than a gem;
Clearer than crystal, ne’er has been,
And like Christ’s diadem.
This City has gates and high wall,
And watchmen at its gates;
That to its guests, to them should call
To whom on Jesus waits.
And to this City, they have rights
To ever enter in;
When they are through with earth’s old fights,
To rest from raging sin.
These gates are placed on every side
With there the number three;
For those through all three Ages sighed,
Till grace did set them free.
This foursquare City, placed by God,
Throughout the Ages stands;
For those who through this old earth plod,
Yet keep the Lord’s commands.
Foundations on, this City stands,
Which the Apostles built;
She does not rest on shifting sands
Like men whose works must tilt.
For they have laid on Jesus there
That Stone that’s ever laid;
And on the Son of God so fair
A Rock, so firmly staid.
When measured by the angels hand,
Her perfect measure is;
In Jesus her perfection stands
For all of it is His.
So pure, this City stood in view;
So lovely was the sight;
All things within are ever New
And all things there are Light.
ALL of this City is pure Gold,
Which shows how Jesus is;
A Beauty, which can ne’er be told,
With all the Love of His.
What precious stones, therein are found,
Which garnish all her realms!
On Love and Truth, Christ’s native ground,
- Our mind it overwhelms.
A pearl of Christ, to enter in,
And streets there made of gold;
Where Grace and Love has saved from sin -
Ordained of God from old.
A Temple in, there John saw none,
For none there is required;
Neither, had light of the old sun
Or with a moon attired.
The Lamb Himself is her Great Light,
Who here outshines earth’s sun;
The lesser light has fled from sight,
When all Christ’s work was done.
A nation called, brings forth her fruits,
And in her light it dwells;
Kings and priests, her glory salutes,
And to her glory knells.
Her gates by day are never shut,
And night shall never come;
Impostors from it shall be cut;
From it, all liars shall run.
And who’re not written in Christ’s Book
Shall never enter in;
Neither they, on whom Grace don’t look
Who yet are under sin.
O! There’s a Fair Tree blooming there,
To all her Substance gives;
A Tree with none, which can compare,
For her, this Fair Tree lives.
And in the midst, a crystal street
As pure as gold can be;
A crystal river on each side;
Of this Great Living Tree.
This stream of Life has ever been
To make this City glad;
To wash away their every sin,
Where earth had once forbad.
These waters ever flowing on,
From Law to Grace they go;
A fountain ever they have gone;
And none impedes their flow.
The curse of sin it takes away,
Where God and Jesus dwell;
In this City they ever stay,
Who there do all things well.
Here in His image she shall shine,
And know Him as He is;
And on His table feast and dine,
And feel that she is His.
The night of sin has fled away,
And Day forever shines;
Jesus is ever their bright Ray,
Within these bright confines.
Heaven and earth has passed away
For those who dwell therein;
But this Heaven shall ever stay
As long as God has been.
Faithful and True, as God Who spoke
To John so long ago;
Death and the grave shall ne’er revoke
His words as spoken so.
The work was short that Jesus made
When here He lived and died;
When to this earth, farewell He bade,
And from their view did hide.
But He returned, this City brought
‘Twas purchased with His blood;
To every sheep of His where lost,
In sins’ old rushing flood.
There is a City made for God,
Because our eyes are dim;
It’s beauty lights this earthly clod ,
It’s New Jerusalem.
We need not wait to walk those streets
Or drink those streams above;
E’en now we feed upon its sweets,
And swim in streams of Love.
If sweet the blessings of these streams,
So sweetly flowing on;
And sweet the comfort of its beams
Which now on us does dawn;
How sweet shall be that home above
With sin forever gone;
And O, how sweet in Jesus’ Love;
To Live in Him alone.

Where Two Or Three Are Gathered Together

"...For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them..." Matt 18:20.
"... And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth..." Isa 11:12.
"...The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him..."

Where Two Or Three Are Gathered Together

The world is crying all around,
For wealth and numbers on this ground;
And few of them would ever dare
- To have only two gathered there.
The glory of the church so free,
When we are given eyes to see;
When this old world does not bog down,
And we can wear the gospel's crown.
Oh, the blest sight, 'tis my delight,
"Tis there a peaceful calm and quite;
When one another's joys we share,
- Where two or three are gathered there.
Sometimes we'd seek for a great crowd,
For noted preachers, great and loud;
Thus hear confusion's constant blare;
-But we'd no more be gathered there.
'Tis not the number, great or few,
Or all the duties we may do;
But 'tis the Love that Jesus sheds,
-The dew that distills on our heads;
'Tis Love and mercy, ever found,
When saints are blessed to hear that sound;
And one anothers burdens bear,
- Where two or three are gathered there.
'Tis not the wise, the great and good,
That has in God's sweet presence stood;
But sinners burdened with earth's load,,
Whom feel that all to God is owed,
But have no goodness to present,
For know that they're a mere peasant;
Nothing have they, blessings to buy,
Which makes their souls to often sigh.
Not many mighty, God has called,
Though, with this truth, the world's appalled;
When here in wonder, they still stare,
- When two or three are gathered there.
Not many wise will we find there,
For these small things, not many care;
To be where Christ's poor humble are,
-Where two or three are gathered there.
But Oh! the joys the world's not known,
When two or three are left alone;
And find themselves, with Christ, an heir,
- Though two or three are gathered there.
Where He has gathered, He is there,
Of all His Father's, with them share;
O! what a blessing, here we bear,
- When two or three are gathered there.
The Gospel's blessing still is there;
For the world's riches, we don't care,
-When God His arm, to us makes bare,
And shows His armies gathered there;
The place is glor'ious, all within
Where Jesus takes away our sin;
Through faith He shows His Face so fair,
- Where two or three are gathered there.
The world may holler, make a din,
And bring their multitudes within;
And with the law, the people scare,
- Where thousands gather here and there;
But God has pleased, His Power to show
To humble children here below;
- When men no longer for them care,
- And but a few, they're gathered there;
- Still wait in patience, gathered there,
For a great crowd is not their care;
Of the world's pride, they would not share,
- When Christ has gathered them all there.
For only two are needed there,
And of God's Grace, a witness bear;
While every precious word they share,
- Where only two are gathered there.
For man will glory, in his pride,
And seek great numbers in his stride;
While the weak things, his stigma bear,
- And they're but a few, gathered there;
Oh, what a foretaste, gathered there,
Of that sweet Home where the saints are;
Our little numbers, here and there,
With that great throng, shall n'er compare:
Though, their numbers, large or few,
They'll give Sovereign Love all it's due;
And all Christ's Glory ever share
- When fin'lly gathered over There.

The Love Of Christ Constrains Us

".For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

Oh, Lord, in shame and vile disgrace,
I now reflect on my days past;
When I, deceived, despised Thy Grace,
Who still does hold my soul so fast.
Of all the arts that Satan has
To try God’s children here below;
- And all the lies that he may pass,
To bring their souls so very low.
The pride of knowledge is the worst
-Tempted our fathers long ago;
When all the floodgates then did burst,
When good and evil they did know.
I now do hold my head in shame,
Why anyone, I then would blame;
For who, more weak, more vile, more lame,
Then I, who blasphemed His Great Name.
We may began with a fair race;
And feel that we are filled with Grace;
When all around on other’s face
Assume there is no trace of grace.
Commending self unto our God;
Forgetting we are a mere clod;
From which we drowse, and sleep and nod,
Until we feel again His rod.
We felt our creed was the main thing

From evil thoughts, I could not steer,

For God, it cost a Great, Dear Price,
With all His tears, and all His cries;
Tho’ grace He every tear now dries,
Whose suff’rings in us sanctifies;
His Law, I thought that I could do,
Though sin had pierced me through and through;
The debt, so large, to Him I owe,
But nothing here, with Him to go;
Still, daily out of His account,
I freely go to this Dear fount;
And draw the waters from this Mount,
To find a needful, blest amount;
He out of it supplies my need
In every day I have journeyed;
If I am poor, or more moneyed,
His Love is still accompanied.
Oh, more and more, I daily see
That Jesus’ grace is really Free! -
As waters cover all this sea,
His Own with Him shall ever be.
But, Lord, Thou’st made me now confess
Could not my shame make me feel less?
That Jesus’ Name I should profess,
