FATHER, NOW YOU'RE GONE
8,6,5,6,10,6
Written on the occasion of the death of my father, whom lived to the age of 97 years.
Oh, my dear father, are you gone?
No more, this earth to roam;
Your tri'als and sorrows now are past,
You've gone to your long home.
Chorus:
Jesus called you home,
No more this earth to roam,
When raised immortal from death's powerful stings,
To rest with Christ at home;
And bore you away on Love's heav'nly wings,
To your eternal home.
No more to travel o'er the hills,
Where your heart was so long;
Your dear ones left in this earth still,
- In God's Will still belong;
Chorus:
Soon we'll follow on,
No more to be alone,
We too, in Hope shall rise in glorious Grace,
And ever be at home,
He'll bear us away on Love's heav'nly wings,
To our eternal home.
In time He called you by His Grace,
And placed in you His Song,
Made you to look upon His Face,
You did to Him belong.
Chorus:
Others too, He'll call,
Where they dwell on this ball;
They too, shall feel His kind and warm embrace,
And long to be at home,
'Till He bears them away on heav'nly wings,
To their eternal home.
You lived and walked through this old earth,
As He Himself has done;
For in His Love, gave you new birth,
In all His ways to run;
Chorus:
Christ on earth did stand,
As was forever planned,
For it became Him to be made like us;
And know this earthly home;
To bear us away on Love's heav'nly wings,
To our eternal home.
Oh, what a blessing, you did know
The Love of Christ so dear;
That God in Jesus pleased to show,
To you while you lived here.
Chorus:
Jesus did reveal,
When His Pow'r then did steal,
O'er your earthy house which did even feel,
'Till raised immortally;
And this old earthy house did even feel,
'Till raised immortally.
What a blessing, we too did feel,
To have you as our own;
In thanks to God our hearts do kneel,
That this to us was shown.
Double Chorus:
Called those of our band,
And did around us stand;
To bear you away on Christ's heav'nly wings
To His eternal home;
Will bear us there too on His heav'nly wings
To His eternal home;
O, come, Jesus come,
When to death, we succumb,
And bear us away in your arms of Love,
To our eternal home,
And bear us away in your arms of Love,
To our eternal home,
